Raising 200,000 rubles for three months of legal representation for Ruslan Sidiki!
Anarchist Ruslan Sidiki remains in custody, and we continue to support him. We now need to raise 200,000 rubles to pay for his lawyer’s services for the next three months. When a person is in pretrial detention, this is the most expensive period in terms of support, but at the same time, there are now more opportunities for defense, regular visits from a lawyer, and appeals.
Ruslan Sidiki, a citizen of Russia and Italy, was sentenced to 29 years in prison. He was found guilty of “terrorism” and a number of other charges for two acts of sabotage against Russian military logistics: an attempted drone attack on the Dyagilevo airfield and the blowing up of a railway line used to transport military cargo. Ruslan emphasized that he had chosen exclusively military infrastructure, and that the blown-up railway tracks were not used for passenger trains.
Ruslan’s lawyer is preparing additions to the appeal and will participate in the proceedings in the Military Court of Appeal. He regularly visits Ruslan in the Ryazhsk detention center, maintains contact with the Italian consulate, and continues to seek the prosecution of the security forces who tortured Ruslan after his arrest. This work requires not only time, but also systematic, persistent pressure on the system — and it is precisely this pressure that is already yielding results.
At the end of August, the prosecutor’s office ruled that investigator Svetlana Surina’s refusal to open a criminal case into Ruslan’s torture was illegal. The materials have been sent for further review, and the lawyer’s demands have been fully met. This was the result of a tremendous amount of work: dozens of complaints, months of correspondence, and constant pressure on the supervisory authorities. For law enforcement officials, this means one thing: every time they break the law, there are consequences. They are called in for questioning, deprived of bonuses, and their violations are recorded. It is precisely this kind of work that reduces the risk of further torture and provides Ruslan with additional protection.
We recently closed the previous fundraiser and paid the lawyer in full by November 15. Now we need to secure the next period — so that the appeal is prepared as thoroughly as possible, so that each visit to Ruslan is paid for, so that work on the torture case does not stop.
We are announcing a new fundraiser — 200,000 rubles for three months of the lawyer’s work. For currency transfers:
